While it’s never too early to begin flight training, we recommend waiting until you are at least 16 years of age. Sixteen is the age requirement to receive a student pilot license and gives us time to complete training prior to your 17thbirthday. We can start training before 16 years old for those looking to solo on their 16th birthday.
Just like getting your driver’s license, you are required to complete a written exam. This test is scheduled outside of the school, but the instructors are here to help with scheduling. We offer several ground school courses through the school that will give you the knowledge to be prepared for this test.
The FAA requires 40 hours of flight instruction along with the other requirements to be eligible for the private pilot test. These 40 hours must include other requirements be met such as so many hours must be flown at night. For more specific requirements refer to private pilot requirement sheet. While the requirement is only 40 hours most students do not achieve this. The FAA says the national average is around 75 hours. We strive to be under that at Fellowship Aviation with our average being between 55-60 hours. Understand that every student is different and struggles in different areas, so times vary from student to student.
